Clay Company
We are STILL operating out of a temporary warehouse because our new facility at Westgate is not open yet due to factors outside of our control.
The Village Potters Clay Center thanks you for your understanding and patience as we manage these logistics.
We look forward to expanding the products our Clay Company offers and launching our new pottery supply store when we reopen in the winter. Soon, we’ll be offering tools, glazes, stains, and more to keep our WNC pottery community well-supplied and inspired.
Guidelines for ordering
Due to current circumstances, please refer to the following guidelines for ordering clay:
These guidelines pertain to clay, raw materials, and glazes.
In-stock & special orders clays, raw materials, & glazes available
While we prepare to open our new facility in the winter of 2025, we’re operating from a temporary warehouse in Asheville. We currently stock a selection of Laguna and Standard Clays (see list below) and can special order any clay from these companies, along with raw materials and glazes.
To keep shipping costs low for everyone, we’re grouping orders to fill pallets, which means special orders may take 2-6 weeks for delivery. We appreciate your patience and continued support during this transition!
Prepayment required
All in-stock clay orders must be prepaid, as we cannot accept payments at the temporary warehouse. After completing our online order form, you will receive an email with an invoice that can be prepaid online. Once payment is received, in-stock items can be picked up during our scheduled pick up days and times: Tuesday and Thursdays from 11 am to 1 pm.
For special orders, once we receive your payment, your item(s) will be added to our next bulk order from Laguna and/or Standard Clays, and we will notify you once we have an estimated delivery date.
Please note that all clay sales are final and all purchases, including clay and raw materials, are nonrefundable.
Clay Orders in 50 lbs increments
At this time, we ask that all moist clay orders be placed in 50 lbs increments (i.e., a full box of clay). Due to our current circumstances, including operating out of a temporary location, we are unable to break up boxes of clay into smaller quantities. This limitation allows us to manage inventory efficiently and streamline the distribution process during this challenging period.
We carry a limited number of popular raw materials in full bags (50/55 lbs) in-stock. Any raw material can be ordered in smaller quantities other than a full bag (50/55 lbs). However, these smaller quantities orders will be processed as a special order meaning they may take 2-6 weeks for delivery and will incur an additional small repackaging fee.
Clay Pick up times & Location
Once we have received your payment and you have been notified that your order is available, you are welcome to pick up your order at our temporary warehouse at the following address:
The Village Potters Clay Company
144 Caribou Road
Suite 50 (back of building)
Asheville, NC 28803
We have volunteers available for two pick-up windows each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11 am – 1 pm (holidays and weather may impact these hours). If you just cannot pick up in this timeline, we may be able schedule to meet you at the warehouse. However, please make every effort to pick up during these times.
Clay pricing & quantity discounts
Moist clay pricing varies depending on the clay body and the quantity ordered. Quantity discounts fall within the ranges below. For moist clays, discounts are applied based on the total weight of your order.
50–200 lbs | 250–450 lbs | 500–950 lbs | 1,000–1,950 lbs | 2,000+ lbs
Once you complete the ONLINE ORDER FORM, a member of our team will contact you with detailed pricing tailored to your selected clay body (or bodies) and order quantity.
Raw materials also qualify for discount pricing, but discounts apply per material and cannot be combined.
We are clay distributors
Please keep in mind that we are clay distributors, not manufacturers. We’ll be keeping a healthy supply of the clays we typically carry, but remember, we don’t make clay.
We’ll do our best but there’s always a chance we’ll run out so planning ahead is essential, especially in winter months when we are unable to ship moist clay due to freezing temperatures.
Test your clay first
We highly recommend that you thoroughly test any clay body before ordering larger quantities to ensure the clay meets your expectations and requirements.
Testing is important as all clay and raw material sales are final and nonrefundable.
Your patience is appreciated
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate our current ordering and pickup process. The support from our community and volunteers means the world to us as we work diligently to reestablish our clay center.
When we reopen in our new location later this winter, we look forward to expanding our in-stock selection of clays, materials, glazes, and tools. We also plan to streamline our ordering process to make it even easier for you to get the supplies you need. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
