Studio Manager | Resident Potter | Instructor | Mentor
Julia Mann (she/her) came to The Village Potters with a 30-year legacy as a successful studio and production potter. She discovered her love and gift for teaching when she came to The Village Potters in 2016. She consistently teaches weekly classes in our Teaching Center classroom, specifically intermediate wheel throwing and hand building. She is the “Technical Mentor” in our Advanced Studies Program (ISM) where she specializes in helping emerging artists hone their skills, loading kilns, and any other procedures that are necessary for all professional potters to have. Julia helps and guides less experienced potters in a gentle, relational way that is valued by everyone in our Village. She does this because it is who she is. She is invested. She cares. She is a natural mentor!
I share what I know because I care deeply about this craft and the community that surrounds it. Supporting others in their growth is both a joy and a privilege, and it is something I consider an essential part of who I am as an artist.
On any given day, you might find me lending a tip or showing a technique that sheds new insight on how to approach a challenge. You might find me helping a fellow potter refine a lidded vessel, making sure it fits just right and feels like an intentional part of the form. It matters to me that the people around me succeed, that they make work they’re proud of.

I’m drawn to making pots meant for daily use, pieces that feel good in your hands and become part of everyday rituals. In my work, I explore a palette of warm and cool tones like burnt reds, deep blues, and soft purples. Most of my pots are fired in a gas reduction kiln to 2,345°F. This intense heat, combined with an oxygen starved atmosphere, creates a depth and richness of color that I can’t achieve any other way. It’s a process that brings out subtle variations and surface qualities that continue to surprise and inspire me.
